GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS

ESSENTIALS FOR CARING FOR YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS

  • WASH with Salon bought sulfate free shampoo (we recommend R + Co range, Olaplex)

  • HYDRATE with Hydrating conditioner or masque for weekly moisturising treatments (we love Loreal Smart bond conditioner)

  • APPLY Heat protecting, moisturising cream to apply after washing prior to blow waving (R + Co High Dive moisture and shine cream or Olaplex #6)

  • Serum to polish ends in between washes (R + Co Tinsel, Olaplex #7, Loreal brush protect)

  • BRUSH with a soft boar bristle brush for gentle brushing

  • Invisibobble hair tie or soft scrunchy for tying hair up gently

  • Only wash your hair extensions 1 -2 times a week for maximum life span

  • Use dry shampoo (we recommend R + Co Death Valley) to prolong your hair between washes

  • LIFT your hair extensions every 6 weeks in salon with one our trained technicians – this is essential to keeping your natural hair in the upmost health and so it causes no damage. Leaving your extensions in longer then this will result in the extension weight causing strain to the hair which is holding the extension in to your scalp. Your hair naturally sheds 100 hairs per day so the longer your extensions have been in the less hair is attaching the weft to your scalp.

  • WEARING YOUR HAIR UP is fine but do not wear in a high ponytail/bun for prolonged periods of time, make sure you take your hair out at night and place in a loose ponytail – this prevents any strain on your scalp

TAKE THE TIME TO CARE FOR YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS

WASHING PROCEDURE

  1. WASH your hair twice with R + Co Sulfate free Shampoo – cleanse your scalp by gently rubbing in small circular motions, do NOT rub the ends vigorously – simply milk the shampoo through the ends as you rinse

  2. TOWEL dry and then apply R + Co conditioner OR Loreal Smart Bond Conditioner to mids and ends of your hair, let soak in for about 2 minutes. Avoid putting product on the root area and thoroughly rinse to avoid build-up for a good 30 – 60 seconds. Once a week alternate this with the Natalie Anne Hydrating and Enriched Masque for 10-20 minutes as a deep moisturising treatment.

  3. LOCK in moisture and ensure your hair extensions are truly nourished by applying a small amount of R + Co High Dive to combed towel dried wet hair prior to air drying or blow waving

BLOWDRYING PROCEDURE

  1. Make sure your hair is 90% dry either air dried naturally (preferred) or blast dried with a hair dryer before starting your blowwave.

  2. Comb any knots out of the hair gently by holding the top of the weft and by working your way up the hair starting at the bottom section by section.

  3. Section hair starting at the nape piece using sectioning clips – this is essential to make sure each weft is dried properly and to avoid any frizziness or fluffiness which may occur if your wefts have any moisture left in them after you have finished your blow wave.
Stretch each section out using a flat brush or a paddle brush smoothing each row out, before going over the ends with a medium round brush, tucking the ends under. Work your way up the head.

  4. Once your blow wave is finished make sure no moisture remains in your hair – applying a tong or straightener over hair with moisture left in it will result in the hair burning and becoming singed.

  5. Curl hair with your muk curler on a low setting (the middle setting or 170 degrees)

  6. If using your hair straightener, make sure it is on a low setting (less than 170 degrees)

  7. Touch up your hair in between washes using a dry shampoo on the roots and by applying a light serum on the ends for moisture

SLEEPING

Never go to sleep with wet hair; always make sure your extensions are completely dry to avoid tangling.
When sleeping, braid your hair extensions OR tie in a low loose pony using an invisibobble or scrunchi – this will avoid tangling

MAKING THE RIGHT CHOICES FOR YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS ON VACAY

When purchasing new extensions, there are a number of things to be aware of which will cause damage to your hair extensions if the hair is exposed to them.

  1. Strictly avoid salt water; as salt is a natural dehydrator it can cause your hair to become extremely dry, and difficult to manage. If you do go in salt water make sure you apply a leave in conditioner prior to entering the water and make sure you rinse/wash your hair in the shower using the washing procedure above as soon as you are back from the beach.

  2. Avoid getting your hair wet in swimming pools as the chlorine content in the water will also damage hair extensions, causing matting and discolouration. Again if this cannot be avoided make sure you apply a leave in conditioner prior to entering the water and make sure you rinse/wash your hair using the washing procedure above soon as you are back from the pool.

  3. If you think you are going to find difficulty in sticking to the above procedures when holidaying with your hair in - it may be a good time for you to take a break and possibly resort to clip ins while on vacay - we definitely don’t want you coming home all matted and your hair extensions ruined xx

PROLONG THE LIFESPAN OF YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS

In short, the less you wash and use heat on your hair, the longer it will last!

  • ALWAYS use heat appliances on a low heat (less then 170 degrees)

  • ALWAYS use sulfate free shampoo, sulfates strip the hair cuticle resulting in dry, unmanageable hair

  • Only use your curler/straightener once a week if you can, especially if you are wearing a blonde shade– this is a massive factor in getting maximum wear out of your new hair

  • Minimise how often you brush your hair – a gentle brush once a day starting at the ends and gently working your way up is perfect. Gently brush just under the top of the weft to avoid matting and dead hair getting caught in between the wefts from your natural shedding cycle. Brushing too often will result in putting unnecessary strain on the wefts.

  • Start brushing your hair from the bottom and then work your way up slowly to the top. Ensure you are using a professional extension brush to avoid breakage and damage to your own hair;

  • Boar Bristle Brushes have been designed specifically for all types of hair extensions.

  • Lightening your extensions is not advised and is done at the client’s own risk. Pre-coloured hair may have semi colours or toners applied to it only and must be done by a Hustle & Co technician.

If you have any questions or if you would like a demonstration on any of the above procedures, please contact the team at Hustle & Co so we can chat and help you!
